GOLD, EXPLAINED PROPERLY
GOLD GRILLZ the honest guide.
"Gold grillz" can mean three very different things: solid gold, galvanic plating, or a PVD finish. Here we explain the difference in plain words, tell you exactly what we use — 24Kt gold-effect PVD over certified dental alloy — and what it really costs, starting at €135.
01
Solid, plated or PVD: three different "golds"
Online, almost everything gets sold as "gold grillz" — but under that one word live three techniques that have nothing in common in look, lifespan or price:
- Solid gold
- The grillz is made entirely of gold alloy, like a piece of fine jewellery. It's the American fronts tradition: stunning, but the price tracks the gold market and runs to hundreds of euros per tooth. Anyone offering it cheap is not selling you solid gold.
- Galvanic plating (gold plated)
- A whisper-thin layer of gold electro-deposited onto a base metal, often not even declared. It's the technique behind cheap marketplace grillz: the layer is minimal and, worn in the mouth, tends to wear through and discolour quickly.
- 24Kt gold-effect PVD — what we use
- Physical Vapor Deposition: in a vacuum chamber, a titanium-nitride-based coating in a 24Kt gold tone is bonded onto ISO 22674 dental alloy. It is not solid gold and we never pass it off as such: it's a technical finish, the same family of treatments used on fine watches and premium steel — far harder and more stable than plating.
The takeaway: before comparing prices, always ask which of the three "golds" you're being sold. If the answer is vague, the low price has already explained itself.
02
How our gold colour is made
Every Premium grillz starts life identical to an Essential: lost-wax casting in ISO 22674 certified chrome-cobalt alloy, hand-polished to a mirror. Only then does the piece go in for the 24Kt gold-effect PVD treatment, applied in a vacuum chamber by a specialised Italian facility: the coating bonds to the metal — it isn't a paint.
That's why we chose PVD over plating: higher surface hardness, a uniform colour, and a finish that stays honest over time. And since the base is the same dental alloy as our silver pieces, you're paying for the finish — not for a precious metal that isn't there.

What gold grillz cost
The Premium with 24Kt gold-effect PVD finish starts at €135 for a single tooth. This is the real price list — the same one that powers the configurator:
| Teeth | Premium · gold-effect PVD |
|---|---|
| 1 tooth | 135€ |
| 2 teeth | 230€ |
| 4 teeth | 410€ |
| 6 teeth | 570€ |
| 8 teeth | 750€ |
| 16 teeth | 1200€ |
On top of the piece you only add the at-home impression kit (€20, if you don't visit the atelier) and shipping within Italy (€8). If silver is more your lane, the Essential starts at €100. You can work out the exact quote with styles and stones in the configurator, before leaving us any contact details.
04
How long the PVD finish lasts
PVD exists precisely to endure: it's the treatment used on watch cases and high-end cutlery because it withstands wear far better than galvanic plating. The same rule applies to grillz, with one condition: treat it like jewellery. Wear it when you want to shine, take it out to eat, drink and sleep.
Care is simple: lukewarm water and mild soap after wearing, a soft brush, a cloth to dry and back into its case. Skip abrasive pastes and harsh products — that's all it takes to keep the colour uniform and the mirror polish alive.

What about solid gold? The honest answer
Today we work exclusively with certified non-precious alloys and PVD finishes: it's a declared choice, and it's what lets us sign custom pieces at honest prices. That's why on this site you'll never find the word "gold" without "PVD" or "effect" next to it — if we ever open up to precious metals, it will be stated loud and clear, karat included.
In the meantime, be wary of anyone promising "real gold" at costume-jewellery prices: either it isn't gold, or you're not being told the whole story. Right now, 24Kt gold-effect PVD is the most honest way to wear the colour of gold on your teeth without paying its weight.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions about gold grillz
01Are Grillz Marche gold grillz real gold?+
No — and we say it before you even ask: the gold colour is a 24Kt gold-effect PVD finish over ISO 22674 certified dental alloy, not solid gold. That choice is what lets us start at €135 per tooth with a declared material, instead of selling you a "gold" that doesn't exist.
02What's the difference between PVD and gold plating?+
Galvanic plating deposits a whisper-thin layer of gold that wears through quickly in the mouth. PVD bonds a titanium-nitride-based coating under vacuum — harder and far more adherent: it's the technique used on fine watches and premium steel. Same colour family, a completely different grip on time.
03Does the gold colour fade over time?+
PVD is among the most stable coloured finishes there are, but it is still a finish: wear your grillz like jewellery (no meals, no sleeping in it) and clean it gently, and it will hold its colour and mirror shine for a long time. Abrasive pastes and rough use, on the other hand, shorten the life of any finish.
04What's underneath the gold colour?+
An ISO 22674 certified chrome-cobalt dental alloy — the same family of alloys used every day in dental labs — lost-wax cast and hand-polished. The titanium-nitride-based PVD coating is applied on top, in a vacuum chamber. It remains decorative jewellery: it comes out to eat and to sleep.
05How much do gold grillz cost for more teeth?+
The Premium list starts at €135 for a single tooth and scales with the number of teeth: the table above shows the real prices, the same ones used in the configurator. Add the impression kit (€20) and shipping within Italy (€8) and you have the full picture, no surprises.
